Carbon Technical Lead – Portfolio Operations

GreenCollar is Australia’s leading ecosystem services project developer and market investor, with over 200 projects spanning 5 million hectares of active conservation as well as a growing international portfolio of work targeting nature-based solutions in carbon abatement, biodiversity conservation, water security and plastics circularity. About the Role

We’re looking for a Carbon Technical Lead – Portfolio Operations to join our Operations team. Reporting to the Head of Portfolio Operations, this role blends technical leadership with hands-on support to troubleshoot challenges. You will work closely with the Portfolio and Research & Development teams, to embed best-practices and processes, enable datadriven decision making, and uphold technical integrity across GreenCollar’s environmental projects.

You will shape, uphold, and evolve technical practices, ensuring GreenCollar’s project delivery remains high-impact, scalable, and aligned with internal standards and external expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership across GreenCollar’s domestic carbon portfolio, with a strong focus on high impact problem-solving, risk management and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to Portfolio teams, supporting the resolution of complex project performance and delivery challenges.
  • Lead or support first-principles analysis of technical risks, issues and delivery constraints, translating insights into practical, actionable solutions.
  • Identify and resolve project-level issues related to geospatial analysis, data integrity, modelling and performance indicators, escalating where required with clear recommendations.

Practice Leadership & Standards Development

  • Lead the definition, implementation and continuous improvement of technical practices, monitoring products, workflows and reporting standards.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, quality assurance, guidelines and business intelligence/reporting standards.
  • Ensure technical practices are scalable and sustainable, enabling growth in project volume, geographical diversity, and regulatory compliance.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with technical and commercial peers to ensure portfolio performance and integration of new methodologies.
  • Partner with the Science and R&D teams to align monitoring approaches with emerging science, methods, and tools, ensuring portfolio feedback informs innovation.
  • Work with Demand and Finance teams on carbon credit forecasting ensuring technical inputs support commercial outcomes
  • Lead the integration of new methodologies into core operational processes (e.g. Plantation Forestry, Environmental Plantings).
  • Where relevant, collaborate with New Initiatives teams to embed emerging methodologies (e.g. Biodiversity, Reef) into core operational processes.
  • Work with external collaborators as a technical lead to support with the delivery of new and existing workstreams.
About You

You are a systems thinker and practical problem solver who enjoys working across complex technical and operational environments. You are comfortable leading through influence and ringing clarity to ambiguity.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong experience in technical problem-solving, using root-cause analysis and first principles thinking.
  • Strong knowledge of monitoring, reporting and verification practices, environmental markets methods, and project lifecycle monitoring
  • Skilled in designing monitoring systems, performance frameworks, and reporting processes.
  • Strong diagnostic skills across geospatial, agricultural data, and environmental modelling
  • Capability to design and implement targeted solutions that improve efficiency, quality, and scalability.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and evolving technical standards, QA processes, and best practices.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence, coaching, and subject matter expertise, especially in cross-functional or matrixed environments.
  • Capacity to link technical decisions to broader operational and commercial objectives (e.g. project crediting, reporting deadlines, audit readiness)
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and evolving priorities in a fast-growing, impact driven business.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and a collaborative, values-led approach.
  • Experience in environmental markets (in particular the ACCU Scheme), carbon project implementation, MRV, natural capital or adjacent sectors will be highly regarded.
