Senior Ecologist

The Role:

You will play a key role in supporting the scaling of NaturePlus™ projects in Australia. You will have the opportunity to apply your practical ecological knowledge to projects delivering the restoration and conservation of biodiversity in a broad range of ecosystems.

You will provide leadership to guide our team of scientists for;

  • Field-based botanical survey work, including vegetation and ecological mapping and targeted threatened flora and fauna survey work,
  • Support and advice to land and resource managers on conservation action,
  • Assessing the feasibility of project approaches for conservation outcomes,
  • Ecological monitoring, involving the design and implementation of monitoring programs, surveys for threatened species, running long-term monitoring projects

You will undertake field research and apply your extensive practical ecological knowledge and ability to engage external experts to deliver high integrity conservation outcomes on NaturePlus™ projects.

  • Preparation of technical reports for public and private sector clients
  • Supporting teams on the delivery of projects
  • Working with the General Manager – New Initiatives and other senior staff to assist with business planning and make strategic decisions for the business’ development

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support high-integrity outcomes for the restoration and conservation of nature through the application of the NaturePlus ™ Scheme across Australia
  • Problem-solve roadblocks to high impact outcomes across project portfolio
  • Establish and manage relationships with stakeholders to progress positive restoration and conservation outcomes across project portfolio
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement in people and operations
  • Provide input to preliminary assessment and design of NaturePlus™ Assessment projects
  • Assist with the management and mitigation of risks
  • Provide communications and leadership to others in the organisation in relation to NaturePlus™

Key Technical Capability/Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience applying ecological knowledge to real life situations
  • Tertiary Qualification in Science (post graduate preferred)
  • Demonstrated high level planning, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate, present and influence all levels of the organisation, including Executive and C-level
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and a willingness to undertake a variety of tasks and display initiative
  • Actively and constructively participate in collaborative activities to achieve shared goals, accepting joint responsibility for outcomes
