Sydney, NSW – 15 September 2016

GreenCollar is pleased to announce our research team is undertaking a collaborative environmental research program to increase the understanding of threats to agriculture and the environment in order to maximise the benefits gained from implementing carbon projects. The flagship research sites are located south west of Cobar and include former Cobar Mayor, Peter Yench’s property: The Meadows.

GreenCollar CEO and co-founder, James Schultz said “We are extremely grateful to have the support and backing of prominent graziers in the Cobar region. By working with local farmers on the ground, we are able to work towards gaining a greater understanding of carbon project risk management so that we can maximize productivity and positive environmental outcomes through better, cost-efficient land management.”

“With close to 3 million ha under management across NSW, QLD & SA, GreenCollar continues to assist farm managers to access additional revenue streams which allow them to supplement the income from their existing agricultural practices and ultimately help build more resilient and sustainable farming enterprises” he said.

Collaborative research in the Western Division aims to explore ways of providing access to Emissions Reduction Fund revenue to additional famers across the region.

GreenCollar has formed a collaborative partnership with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) to undertake cooperative research projects throughout the rangelands of the Western Division of NSW. The program is being implemented with the support of the ORANA Regional Development Board and with the help of local graziers like Peter Yench.

Peter Yench is one of GreenCollar’s founding project partners and has helped drive support for carbon farming projects across the region. Peter was one of the early adopters in an industry that now contributes significant revenue to landholders across the Western Division.

Sydney, NSW – 15 September 2016

GreenCollar is pleased to announce our research team is undertaking a collaborative environmental research program with CSIRO to increase the understanding of landscape productivity at the property level and to maximise the benefits gained from implementing carbon farming projects. The on-ground sampling for this research will be conducted on sites south west of Cobar over the coming years.

GreenCollar CEO and co-founder, James Schultz said “The collaborative research project with CSIRO in the Western Division is extremely important for understanding carbon sequestration potential and the future development of Emissions Reduction Fund Methods.”

GreenCollar have the largest portfolio of carbon projects in the country and are collaborating with CSIRO to evaluate extensive forest inventories collected from their projects across the region. This data, coupled with on-ground work on a number of sites will inform further development of FullCAM, Australia’s National Carbon Accounting Software, and improve its application for Emissions Reduction Fund projects.

GreenCollar Head of Research, Dr Jenny Sinclair said “This is an extremely important research collaboration focused on an ecosystem pivotal to Australia’s greenhouse gas abatement and agricultural sector, that enables the further development of Australia’s National Carbon Accounting system”.

GreenCollar have developed over 90 carbon farming projects in the Western Division. These projects have been made possible through strong collaboration with local farmers and graziers. Importantly these projects have provided farmers and graziers with access to revenue streams from the Commonwealths Emissions Reduction Fund, allowing capital reinvestment back into on farm productivity improvements and the local economy more broadly.

GreenCollar has built strong relationships with the local community, including regional organisations such as ORANA Regional Development and local natural resource management groups. Moreover these projects have allowed GreenCollar to undertake a range of research programs on key properties across the Western Division.

One of the project sites being used to gather on-ground data is on the property The Meadows, owned by the former mayor of Cobar Peter Yench. Peter has been a long-time proponent of carbon projects in the Western Division and, amongst other graziers in the region, is assisting GreenCollar with access to his property to undertake critical research relevant to this region.

Sydney, NSW – 29 August 2016

GreenCollar is pleased to welcome Dr. Shaun Cunningham to the environmental research team as a Research Associate. Our environmental research team is undertaking a collaborative environmental research program to increase the understanding of carbon project risk factors and maximise conservation and biodiversity on projects in rangeland settings.

GreenCollar has formed a collaborative partnership with the University of Technology Sydney’s (UTS) Centre for Compassionate Conservation (CfCC) to undertake cooperative research projects such as this. The collaboration is partly funded through AusIndustry’s Innovation Connections, a program that has been established to drive new industry-led collaborations between researchers and business to foster the development of new ideas with commercial potential.

Dr. Cunningham, of Deakin University, comes to us as part of that collaboration. He is one of Australia’s leading researchers in the land use and climate change adaptation space and will contribute his expertise in ecological modelling and adaptation to assist with the development of an environmental risk assessment protocol to support GreenCollar’s project management, monitoring and evaluation framework.

Dr. Cunningham has published 42 peer-reviewed journal papers. As lead investigator, Shaun has attracted over $1.2 Million of research funding across the country.

“We are extremely excited to have Dr. Cunningham join our team. With his extensive research experience in the adaptation of native ecosystems to land use change and climate change, Shaun will be a valuable asset in the development of our carbon project risk assessment protocol” said GreenCollar CEO and co-founder James Schultz.

“GreenCollar continues to set the standard for innovative solutions to meet the challenges of climate change and our research partnerships are a key aspect to drive these solutions into the future” he said.

GreenCollar Head of Research and Project Services, Dr. Jennifer Sinclair said, “We currently have 72 land sector carbon projects under the ERF covering 1.5M ha in NSW, QLD & SA. From these sites we have collected a large quantity of data on floral biodiversity, fencing, firebreaks, fuel loads, native grazing animals, feral animals, livestock numbers, and fauna population control methods which we share with research institutions around the country. Today’s announcement is an exciting step towards gaining a greater understanding of carbon project risk management so that we can maximize productivity and positive environmental outcomes through better, cost-efficient, land management.”

As part of the filling research gap proposal, GCS is collecting soil data on Beetaloo Station in the Northern Territory.

This field work kicked off in late September and is continuing through to mid November.

The objective of the project is to demonstrate a commercially cost-efficient method to measure rangeland soil organic carbon content and composition utilising remote sensing and in situ ground based spectrometry
for application in Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) methodologies. This method extends and complements the Soil Carbon Research Program (SCaRP) field and laboratory methods.

The outcome of the project will be a tested measure of rangeland soil organic carbon. This method will be used in a CFI soil carbon methodology for a robust assessment of carbon stocks in rangelands. The project will be undertaken on 100,000 hectares of central Australian rangeland across two properties.
