As Head of Science, Cathy Waters is responsible for developing new research areas to grow business opportunities and support ongoing confidence in environmental and socio-economic outcomes from project activities. Cathy has a long history of working in Australian rangelands as a field-based ecologist primarily with NSW Department of Primary Industries but also undertaking international collaborative research in the United States and South Africa.
In her most recent role at NSW DPI she led the Climate Research program which has led to a deep appreciation of the science-policy interface and the opportunities for land managers participating in environmental markets. Cathy also brings experience from ecological applications in forestry and more broadly agricultural systems to the GreenCollar team working across plant and livestock genetics, restoration ecology, soil carbon and grazing management. She is passionate about the benefits from sustainable land management and the new opportunities that are emerging for environmental stewardship to be valued.
