Australians are better off under the carbon tax, according to Climate Change Minister Greg Combet, who has declared the carbon pricing a great Labor reform that Tony Abbott “cannot and will not” repeal.
In an address to the National Press Club in Canberra, Combet said the household assistance package provided to compensate families for the cost of the policy, had “left many millions of Australians better off”.
He said that since the introduction of the carbon laws almost a year ago, emissions in the National Electricity Market were down more than 7 per cent and renewable energy generation was up almost 30 per cent.
