Head of Portfolio

GreenCollar is Australia’s leading ecosystem services project developer and market investor, with over 200 projects spanning 5 million hectares of active conservation as well as a growing international portfolio of work targeting nature-based solutions in carbon abatement, biodiversity conservation, water security and plastics circularity. We aim to prove that the best way to achieve lasting environmental outcomes is to enable markets to direct long-term finance towards sustainable land management practices and ecosystem services.

We work in partnership with farmers, graziers, traditional owners and other land managers to develop high quality, high integrity nature-based projects that deliver economic, environmental and social benefits.

About your role

With the rapid growth of our organisation, GreenCollar is seeking an exceptional and seasoned Head of Portfolio to join the Operations team on a permanent full-time basis. The role will either need to be located in our Head Office in Sydney with the ability to travel or in close proximity to a majority of our projects (specific states include- QLD, SA, WA and NSW).

As Head of Portfolio, you will report into the Chief Operating Officer. You will be responsible for the performance, integrity and long-term growth of one or more of our domestic carbon portfolios. You will lead a portfolio of projects to ensure they achieve their project outcomes, are managed with a focus on quality and integrity, and deliver demonstrable value to all stakeholder groups including landholders and custodians, GreenCollar, and clients.

In this role you will be:

  • Managing at least one portfolio of active GreenCollar projects to ensure the portfolio is focused on achieving the project outcomes of each project. These include ensuring that projects perform on measures such as:
    • The maintenance and growth of carbon stock
    • The maintenance and growth of biodiversity
    • The maintenance and growth of agricultural production
  • The implementation of the monitoring and evaluation frameworks
  • Ensuring the projects performance is in line with project expectations and forecasts, which will include but is not limited to; achieving project goals and milestones, the generation of ACCUs and other credits, sell-through of ACCUs and other credits
  • Reporting and audit obligations are met with a high level of integrity
  • The effective planning and management of the portfolio at all stages (strategic planning, forecasting, goal setting, budgeting and management)
  • Identifying opportunities to improve project impact
  • Supporting new opportunity development across all of GreenCollar’s current and emerging project types,methodologies, and domains (i.e., territories/locales)
  • Manage and develop the portfolio team
  • Working effectively across the broader Operations team to actively contribute to the long-term performance of the performance of GreenCollar’s consolidated domestic carbon portfolio(s) and enabling capabilities

What will help you succeed

  • Proven track record of successfully building and leading a multidisciplinary team (ideally including commercial and technical functions)
  • Clear history of accountability and delivering outcomes, including balancing non-negotiables (we have some core values we don’t budge on) with necessary trade-offs
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining long-term partnerships and stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to build and maintain trust and navigate critical conversations
  • Demonstrated adaptability to manage uncertainty in evolving, ambiguous environments.
  • Sound experience working collaboratively and guiding teams through change with clarity and confidence
  • Commercial acumen: experience with and responsibility for commercial aspects of a role
  • Comfortable travelling and working in rural and remote environments from time to time

Nice to have skills/experience

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus

  • A tertiary qualification in environmental economics, finance, commerce or environmental science or similar
  • Professional exposure to environmental markets
  • Comfortable delivering outcomes in a highly complex data-heavy environment
  • Sales experience; importantly not limited to the new business transactions but the delivery of project post transaction success
  • Working with a diverse set of stakeholders from landholders to executive management
