Programme Manager – International Programme

GreenCollar is Australia’s leading ecosystem services project developer and market investor, with over 200 projects spanning 5 million hectares of active conservation as well as a growing international portfolio of work targeting nature-based solutions in carbon abatement, biodiversity conservation, water security and plastics circularity. About the role

GreenCollar is seeking to fill a Programme Manager – International Programme position with a passionate and ambitious employee. The position will join the International team on a permanent full-time basis.

The role will work closely with the International team based in the United States and Australia. The role will contribute to the development and management of international offset projects for carbon, biodiversity, water and plastics, with a focus on carbon. Carbon projects will focus on agriculture, forestry and land use activities including blue carbon. The position will support the International Programme across its functions with a focus on support to project management, budgeting, and quantitative analysis (technical and safeguards).

The location for the role is either the United States or Australia.

The position will include the following day-to-day responsibilities that will be tailored to the candidate’s experience: 

  • Work with internal teams to help create and manage a portfolio of high quality, high integrity international forest and land-use carbon credit projects.
  • Contribute to development of international forest and land-use carbon offsets to the highest standards of environmental and social integrity.
  • Work with internal teams and project counterparts to help design and structure international forest and land-use carbon credit projects.
  • Manage client, stakeholder and collaborator engagement & communications.
  • Project management of projects in the pipeline and within GreenCollar’s active portfolio.
  • Support due diligence of international forest, land-use, and other carbon credit projects. This includes due diligence of projects before they enter GreenCollar’s pipeline along with other projects GreenCollar sources from.
  • Carry out market research, literature reviews and draft reports on findings.
  • Writing and verification of project documentation and reports.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, including visiting project sites in rural areas in developing countries

Areas of expertise

In addition to the above day-to-day responsibilities the candidate will contribute additional areas of expertise to support the development and management of environmental market projects. The successful candidates will not be required to meet all desired capabilities, and the level of responsibility will be tailored to the candidate’s background and experience.

Specific expertise required in at least one of the following:

  • Helping to identify, conduct feasibility assessment and plan on-the-ground activities that support the generation of environmental credits (particularly carbon) from projects including analyses of stocks and changes in stocks and planning and conducting field measurement.
  • Working with biodiversity, social safeguard and legal teams in due diligence analyses, project development, community engagement and impact assessments.
  • Analysis of project budgets to help assess financial viability and supporting financial management of projects. This includes development and analysis of project budgets that contribute to financial models for environmental market projects and investments and working with GreenCollar’s accounting department in Australia to accurately track and manage expenses and financial obligations to prepare periodic reports for investors.

Skills and experience 

  • Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus either 2+ or 4+ years of hands-on experience, including experience with project management.
  • Familiarity with carbon market standards and project types are a plus. Candidates should also be willing to apply their expertise to other environmental market initiatives GreenCollar engages in.
  • Familiarity with agroforestry, forestry, or agricultural practices in developing countries is desirable.
  • Depending on the candidates are of expertise one or more of the following skills and experience is desired:
    • Experience budgeting and financial analysis of large international development projects
    • Experience in technical aspects of forest and land use greenhouse gas emission reduction programs and projects, and/or social safeguards
  • Experience using one or more of the following software / tools is desirable but not required:
    • Use and coding of R
    • Use and analysis in Google Earth Engine and/or QGIS
  • Candidates must have a high level of proven expertise in spreadsheet creation, manipulation and analysis with high comfort in dealing with large databases and distilling information from databases.
  • Candidates must be professionally fluent in English with excellent writing and presenting skills.
  • Fluency in Hindi, Spanish or other languages is highly desirable.
