Ashwood Native Forest Protection Project

Avoided Deforestation

The Ashwood Native Forest Protection Project is located near Cobar, New South Wales. It spreads across two properties and is under the care of Keith and Glen Francisco and their families.

Prior to the carbon project, both families were struggling to maintain their farms due to the drought and low stock prices. Since partnering with GreenCollar, the families have used income from the carbon project to build extensive fencing, allowing project areas to be protected and mitigating fire risks. Additionally, the Francisco families are now able to manage their grazing land more sustainably, resting paddocks to allow the pasture to regenerate.

Before the project, the Francisco families intended to clear large amounts of land across the properties, but participating in the carbon project has provided an alternative, offering sustainable means for managing the land and also helping to improve drought resilience by upgrading water infrastructure.

According to Keith and Glen Francisco, the project has been life changing for both their families and the land they manage.
