Project Information
Claymore Native Forest Protection Project
Avoided Deforestation
For Barry Archer, implementing a carbon project has had a significant impact on the local environment – for the benefit of both the land and his business. Barry’s partnership with GreenCollar has not only made him more aware of how to protect his property, it has also helped him achieve and maintain a balance between productive agriculture and stewardship of native vegetation.
By protecting 1,364 hectares of native forest at Claymore, Barry has been able to fund the installation of exclusion fencing and firebreaks, and vastly improve water infrastructure and retention across the landscape. This has not only protected the future of the property, but also helped increase its value.
With his clients becoming increasingly conscious of environmental impact, Barry’s project also demonstrates that he has an active commitment to the environment. As a result, it has become important for his business reputation, helping him differentiate his brand and create additional value for his customers.
Barry’s promotion of his project to National and international clients has provided a blueprint for the sustainable protection of older forests, alongside a successful livestock business – something he says has fostered open discussions with important stakeholders on the protection and balance of privately held forests.
