Carbon Project Analyst

GreenCollar is Australia’s leading ecosystem services project developer and market investor, with over 200 projects spanning 5 million hectares of active conservation as well as a growing international portfolio of work targeting nature-based solutions in carbon abatement, biodiversity conservation, water security and plastics circularity. About the role

GreenCollar is seeking an experienced Carbon Project Analyst  to join our dynamic team on a permanent full-time basis. In this role you will be taking the lead on investigating, understanding, and communicating the performance of the Portfolio’s environmental regeneration projects.

As a Carbon Project Analyst you will also work closely with:

  • your peers in the Portfolio team to investigate project performance and opportunities;
  • your peers across GreenCollar on the continuous improvement of measurement, monitoring, reporting, verification, geospatial, and remote sensing practices;
  • project stakeholders – including landholders, pastoralists, regulators, and auditors to understand, report on and communicate project performance.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Analyse project data from multiple sources using appropriate statistical and analytical techniques to evaluate project performance
  • Proactively monitor ongoing project events, activities, and performance
  • Create and validate project forecasts
  • Prepare and manage project and portfolio reporting schedules, sequences and requirements
  • Prepare comprehensive project reports, visualisations, presentations, and responses to communicate performance and guidance to project stakeholders
  • Identify and communicate opportunities or imperatives to improve project performance and outcomes
  • Respond to and resolve triggered monitoring events
  • Recommend, or provide clear guidance on, project and portfolio priorities and activities
  • Understand environmental markets methods and methodologies, with a particular focus on carbon methods (including Avoided Deforestation, Avoided Clearing, Human Induced Regeneration, Native Forest from Managed Regrowth, and others)
  • Understand each project’s adherence to its project method (activities; outcomes)
  • Understand how data tools process available information
  • Investigate and pursue opportunities to improve the quality, scalability, efficiency and standardisation of project analysis and reporting
  • Work with Portfolio and Community of Practice peers to improve the integration of core monitoring and analysis activities into project lifecycle management
  • Occasionally lead site visits for measurement, monitoring, audit, or stakeholder relationship purposes

Background and experience 

  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills
  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts, modelling, forecasting, hypothesis development and testing
  • Experience with data querying, cleaning, and wrangling techniques
  • Proficiency in SQL, R, or Python for data querying, manipulation, and analysis
  • Understanding and some level of proficiency with GIS analytics tools
  • Ability to think logically, break down complex problems, and devise effective solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate findings, recommendations, and data-driven narratives to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple data analysis projects, set realistic timelines, and deliver high-quality work within specified deadlines
  • Meticulous attention to detail when working with data, ensuring accuracy and consistency in analysis and reporting
  • Experience in, or familiarity with, environmental markets – including experience with modelling tools such as FullCAM, RMT, SavBAT – a plus
  • A passion for the natural environment and sustainability a plus
