Founded in 2008, GreenCollar developed some of the first projects under the Carbon Farming Initiative (2011) and is now the largest provider of nature-based carbon abatement in Australia. We have established over 200 projects across rural and regional areas working alongside private landholders, Traditional Owners, research organisations, government, natural resource management (NRM) and community groups.
In 2017 GreenCollar created Reef Credits, the first, innovative market solution for improving water quality in catchments of the Great Barrier Reef. The market launched in 2020 and is continuing to grow with new methodologies that reward farmers and other land managers for water quality outcomes delivered via ecosystem services and improvements in land management practices.
GreenCollar is committed to working with farmers, graziers Traditional Owners and other land managers to design appropriate, individual projects which complement existing operations or aspirations, while achieving positive commercial and environmental outcomes. GreenCollar possesses full end-to-end, in-house expertise in the development, management, legal and technical implementation of commercial environmental projects.

- GreenCollar made a strategic investment in of EnergyLink Services Australia to create new end-to-end service partnership for businesses seeking to decarbonise
2023
- Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan acquires KKR and other shareholder investments in GreenCollar to become majority shareholder
- GreenCollar announced a major new three-year collaboration with The Australian Museum (AM) for the AM’s Climate Solutions Centre (CSC) to research and communicate climate change impacts on Australia’s and the Pacific’s biodiversity as well as technology and community solutions
- NaturePlus™ issued first 8500 credits in November and GreenCollar publicly released the NaturePlus™ Standard, Guide and Claims Guidance
- $10million purchase of Reef Credits by the Queensland Government injects confidence into this burgeoning environmental market
- Partnership with MAMS Group and Queensland Banana Growers Council produces Australia’s first and world’s second verified plastic credits

- First Over the Counter ACCU transactions sold to Liable Emitters covered by the Clean Energy Act, with over 4m ACCUs sold
2011
- Carbon Farming Initiative introduced
- Conducts its first Avoided Deforestation (AD) project generating its first credits. Other projects followed in Human Induced Regeneration (HIR) and soil carbon
- Only private company to be awarded funding via the Government’s Filling the Research Gap Program
